The rapid Tuhmakoski of the river Tuhmajoki is situated in the Saarijärvi water way between the rapids Heijostenkosket and Kalmu-Haapakoski. Pond Tuhmalampi empties into lake Kalmarinselkä via the river Tuhmajoki which is about 2 km long. The fishing ground begins above the bridge and it is about 250 metres long. Above the waterfall the rapid divides in a main bed and mill bed. From the isthmus between the beds you can effective fish both beds. There are stairs from the bridge to the isthmus. The mill bed flows also quite swiftly because the mill dam has been broken. The rapid flows slowly but it is quite wide. The rapid is mostly shallow and therefore it is easy to wade there. Therefore it is difficult to fish in the rapid if there are only a little water in the river. Lake trout is the most wanted catch in the rapid Tuhmakoski. There are often anadromous lake trout from other rapids and lakes. Also grayling has been stocked in the rapid in last years. Below the lower quiet water area there is a fireplace. From there you can look what is happening on the rapid. You can fish in peace on the shores of the rapid because there is only on the east shore an abandoned farm.
