The rapid Tarvaalankoski is the last rapid of the Rautalampi water way. Lake Kuusvesi empties into bay Koivulahti via the rapid Tarvaalankoski. Bay Koivulahti is in connection with lake Saravesi. The rapid flows quite slowly. Along the east shore of the rapid it is possible to drive with a motor boat. The west shore is quite shallow. The rapid will be restored in a couple of years. The scenery of the rapid Tarvaalankoski is historical worthy. On the rapid there has been fishermen’s and travellers from the Stone Age. In the area there is as a sight an old graveyard and old lands of church of Hartikka. The famous rock paintings of Saarakallio are only a couple of kilometres away. The fishing ground begins bellow the bridge. The fishing area is marked with signs. The rapid is quite wide and on the shores there are a plenty of vegetation. Therefore the best way to fish on the rapid is to use a boat. Also wadding is possible. The rapid is suitable for dry fly fishing. The catch are mostly grayling and lake trout which belong to the population of Rautalampi water way. The most wanted catch is lake trout which breeding is successful in the river. There is stocked only a little lake trout in the river. In the river there are mostly grayling which is successful naturalized in the rapid in the beginning of 1990’s. The biggest grayling are weighing over 1 kg. Also grayling is breeding in the river. Above the rapid there is a launching place for boats. To the rapid Tarvaalankoski it is possible to come via the canal from lake Päijänne. If you need a boat you can rent it. In the village of Laukaanvirta you can go shopping or enjoy refreshment in the baars of the village.
