The rapid fishing ground Kapee consists of two rapids and the races between them. The upper one of the rapids is called Luijankoski and the lower one is called Kapeenkoski. Lake Kuhnamo-järvi empties into lake Vatiajärvi via the rapids. The surface of lake Vatiajärvi is 3 metres below the surface of lake Kuhnamo-järvi. The rapids are the first rapids on the waterway between lakes Keitele and Päijänne that haven’t been harnessed. The rapids are ashort, steep and extremely swift. Although the fishing ground is situated in a central location, it is peaceful and wild. The only settlements in the area can be found at the eastern shore of the rapid Kapeenkoski. There are good services in the rapid fishing ground Kapee. Lean-ons have been built above the rapid Luijankoski and in the middle of the are below island Kattilasaari. Lake trout is the most wanted catch in the rapid fishing ground Kapee. The lake trout population is taken care of with frequent plantings. A lot of anadromous fish have been caught too. The grayling population is growing because a lot of grayling have been planted into the rapids. There are also natural fish like ide, pike, and powan in the rapids. The areas above the rapids are the best lodges in the area. The bushy and deep shores offer good hiding places for grayling and lake trout. Very often fish can be found near the shore. There are also pits, which are rich in fish, near the middle parts of the rapid. The easiest way to locate these pits is to watch and follow what the local fishermen are doing. Fishing is easiest from a boat, especially when the level of water is high in the rapids. There are boats for rent in the area. You should be careful when fishing from a boat, because the rapids are extremely swift. Fishing from the shore is difficult because the shores are bushy and steep. The eastern shore of the rapid Kapeenkoski is a private area, and therefore fishing there is forbidden. Apart from this area, rest of the shores can be used for fishing. You should have strong tackles because the rapids are wide and extremely swift. You also should use extra weights with you lures if you want to fish near the bottom.
