The rapids Virtaalankosket in Keuruu are the last rapids in the waterway of Tarhia, which begins from lake Tarhapäänjärvi and flows into lake Keurusselkä via lake Tarhiajärvi. The fly fishing ground consists of three rapids and the river area between them. The biggest one of the rapids is the rapid Virtalankoski. The rapid Kiuaskoski, which is above the rapid Virtalankoski, and the rapid Koukkuvirta, which is below the rapid Virtalankoski, are smaller in scale. The rapids Virtaalankosket has been restored and there are a lot of good ”pits” and background stones in the rapids. The best pits can often be found near the shores. The rapid Virtaalankoski has been for years the only rapid in Central Finland which is dedicated for fly fishing only. Since 1998, the rapid Kellankoski in Viitasaari has also belonged to this group of rapids. The fly fishing club Keuruun perhokalastajat has taken care of the fishing arrangements on the rapids. A lean-on and a fireplace have been built on the rapid Virtalankoski for fishermen to use. For fishermen, it is possible to accommodate near the rapid in an old cabin of log floaters which is rich in atmosphere. The fly fishing ground is excellent for groups too, because it is also possible to rent the whole rapid together with the cabin.
