Freshwater salmon use vendace and smelt as nutriment and therefore they follow vendace and smelt swarms. Freshwater salmon are often in deep waters in summer and therefore you should use a downrigger when trolling. Freshwater salmon are near the surface, often even near shores, in autumn and spring.
The best time for trolling is in the darkness of the morning and evening, but it is also possible to catch freshwater salmon at night or during the day. The fishing season begins early in spring and ends when lakes freeze. The best season is late in autumn.
Brown trout use vendace and smelt as nutriment and you should take that into consideration when you choose your lure.
