Fly fishing on running waters in Finland

Fly fishing is popular on rapids in Finland. Brown trout and grayling are usually fished on rapids.

Light fly fishing tackles are enough on rapids. Wadding boots are enough on small rapids and on big rapids you need wadding trousers and even a boat.

Dry fly fishing is popular on rapids. A fish which has been seen should be approached from below and the cast is directed above the fish so that the fly floats over the fish. If no fish can be seen, the fly must be floated over the probable lodges.

Wet fly fishing is effective with sedge fly pupas on rapids in Finland. It is important to sink the pupa as near the bottom as possible. The biggest brown trout and rainbow trout are often caught with streamers. The fry imitation is usually dragged on the surface or floated near the bottom.
