Lake Leppävesi is the first big lake above the canal of Keite in Vaajakoski. Lake Leppävesi is eutrophic and the fish productivity is high there. The water quality of the lake has been become better in last years. On the shores near Vaajakoski there is a lot of settlement but farther on the lake there is enough uninhabited shore. The lake is about 20 km long. In the north after Vuonteensalmi it goes on to lake Saravesi in Laukaa. On the south end of the lake there is the long and narrow bay Leppälahti which ends in Toivakka. In the south there is the long bay Metsolahti. So there are enough shores on lake Leppävesi. The open lakes are quite deep and the deepest place is nearly 40 metres deep. Nearly all shores of the lake a rushy. There are currents in the narrow places of lake Leppävesi and there are often a plenty of fish in the places. From the lake there is available a good chart which you can use for a help to find lodges. Toivakka is not on the map but bay Leppälahti is deep and it is easy to go by boat to the harbour of Toivakka. The canal route is marked with spar-buoys on lake Leppävesi. Around the lake there are launching places for boats as well as places to take a brake. You can come to the lake from lake Päijänne via a canal. Pike and pike perch are the most important fish in the lake but there are also anadromous lake trout. Lake Lievestuoreenjärvi is the other big lake on the ground. The water quality of the lake has been very bad for decades but nowadays it is much better. Now the lake is one of the most fishy and clear watered lakes in Central Finland. In the lake there are a plenty of vendace and therefore the lake trout plantations have been successful. Also the pike population is strong in the lake. The lake is very deep and there are only a few islands in the lake. From the lake there is a base map with contour lines available. An own boat you can launch in the harbour of Lievestuore. There has not been built places on the lake to take a brake but there are enough uninhabited shores where it is possible to go ashore. For the fishing ground of lake Leppävesi it is possible to buy a permit which allows fishing also in the fishy currents of the ground. Between Vuonteensalmi the waters Toronselkä, Saaravesi (partly), Vatia (where are big pike), and Kuhnamo (partly) belongs to the ground. Fishing is also allowed in the rapid Ylisenkoski which is above the river Vaajavirta as well as in the south part of lake Peurunkajärvi. Only three rods per boat is allowed with the permit. The boundaries of the fishing ground is marked in the nature.”
