Lake Kivijärvi is one of the biggest lakes in the northern central Finland. The lake is nearly 50 km long and its maximum width is 9 km. The shores of the lake are very rocky. “Only the shores of lake Kivijärvi are rocky. The open lakes are often deep and there are only a few ranges of rocks. There is also a new map of the lake with contour lines which helps to find fishing places. The navigation routes on lake Kivijärvi have been marked with small spar-buoys. An echo sounder is also a useful device to have on your boat. Lake Pohjois-Kivijärvi is more eutrophic than lake Kivijärvi and the water is also more brown. The northern part of the lake is an excellent place to fish pike and pike perch. There is a yearly pike perch trolling competition called “Kinnulan kuhauistelu”, the catches of which prove that the pike perch population in the lake is big. The south end of lake Kivijärvi is deep and clear-watered and there is a lot of lake trout. Pike must be fished on rushy bays. Many fishing competitions are held yearly on lake Kivijärvi. There are excellent harbours and places to take a brake on lake Kivijärvi. There is a well-maintained fireplace and many places where you can launch your own boat. Lintuselkä is a popular place for trolling, and island Lintusaari is also located there. There is a beautiful sandy bathing beach where you can take a break. The villages of Kinnula, Kivijärvi and Kannonkoski are located at the shore of the lake.
