The fishing permit of the area allows fishing on nearly all the beautiful waters in the area. You can fish on the oligotrophic and clear-watered lake Pyhäjärvi as well as on little dark-watered lakes. There are several waterways between the lakes of Saarijärvi, most of which have been harnessed to produce electricity. Lake Pyhäjärvi is the largest and deepest lake of the fishing ground. The shores of the wide open lakes are rocky. There are a lot of salmonoids (powan, vendace) in the clear waters. A lot of freshwater salmon have been planted into the area during the last couple of years. The largest freshwater salmon which has been caught was about 7,5 kg. A lot of lake trout have also been caught by trolling. Lake Summanen is the second largest lake in the area. The lake is eutrophic and the water is brown. Nowadays the lake is an excellent place to troll pike perch because a lot of pike perch have been planted into the lake. There are a lot of wide open areas and deep water areas on lake Summanen, but only few islands and rock-ranges. There is also a village, which dates back to the Stone Age, at the shore of the lake. It’s a good place to get an idea of what fishing and hunting might have been like in the past. Lake Saarijärvi is the third largest lake in the area and it is eutrophic and dark-watered. Nowadays the lake is an excellent place to troll pike perch because a lot of pike perch have been planted into the lake. The town of Saarijärvi is situated at the north shore of the lake. Island Elosaari, which is located in the middle of the lake, divides the lake into two deep, open areas. There are a lot of buildings at the shores of the lake. The lake is quite scarce on aquatic plants. Lake Lannevesi empties into lake Summanen from the south via the river Lannejoki. The water quality of lake Lannevesi is excellent. Lake Lannevesi is long and narrow and there is little settlement at the shores. It is possible to launch your own boat on nearly all the lakes. There are three fireplaces on lake Pyhäjärvi and there are also shores with no buildings at all.
