The river Könkköjoki is situated between lakes Huhtiajärvi and Karikkoselkä in Petäjävesi. The river is very brook-like. There are several little rapids in the river and it flows through uninhabited landscape. The shores of the river are covered with vegetation, so it is necessary to have good wadding equipment. The fishing ground begins from the area above the waterfall Könkkökoski which is on the border of the village of Petäjävesi. The rapid ends in lake Karikkoselkä. The other big rapids in the area are Pitkäkoski, Karikkokoski, Myllykoski, and Sahakoski. The rapids flow swiftly, especially in spring, because they all are are quite steep. During dry seasons the rapids are quite low in water. Although the river is small, there is a lot of life in the river and a careful fisherman can easily catch some salmonoids. If you catch a lake trout smaller than 40cm in length, you have to release it back into the river. However, there are lots of big fish in the river too. In springtime there are a lot of andromous fish in the river.
