Lake Suontee empties into lake Viherijärvi via the short rapid Viherinkoski. The fishing ground consists of two short rapids and deep quiet water between the rapids. The total length of the ground is about 100 metres. The road from Joutsa to Pertunmaa crosses the rapid. There is also an idyllic old bridge which is a sight not to be missed. There is a fireplace with a lean-on on the shore above the waterfall. It is also possible to go tenting there. The fact that there is a private area on the eastern shore of the rapid makes it a bit difficult to do fishing. The fish population of the rapid consists mainly of lake trout and rainbow trout. Due to plantings, there are also grayling in the rapid. Lake trout originate mostly from plantings, but there are also some bigger lake trout which have come to the rapid from the above lakes. If you’re lucky, you can catch a glimpse of big lake trout spawning. The part of the rapid above the new bridge and the middle quiet water area are regarded as the best places on the rapid. The middle quiet water area is very deep and rich in fish. The place should be fished with jiggs, deep running wobblers or with weighted flies. Rapid Viherinkoski is one of the few rapids which are in pucblic use in the southeastern part of central Finland. Because of this, and also because of the short length of the rapid, it is occasionally crowded. If you want to have a peaceful fishing experience, you should come to the rapid at night, and preferably not during the best season.
